Honda Civic recognised for safety

February 2012

The 2012 Honda Civic has been awarded the highest ratings for occupant and pedestrian safety by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

ANCAP has outlined new measures by which to evaluate cars on the Australian market, adding pedestrian protection to the criteria.

"It is important that ANCAP continues to raise the bar when it comes to vehicle safety," ANCAP chair Lauchlan McIntosh said today (February 3).

"The Road Map does that and these results confirm that car manufacturers are willing to lead the way."

Mr McIntosh commended Honda on its achievement.

"Pedestrian protection is an area that has not been well addressed amongst the current fleet so Honda has thrown out a challenge to other vehicle manufacturers."

Standard features such as Antilock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD) and electronic stability control (ESC) contributed to the impressive score.

The Honda Civic also features the marque's breakthrough G-Force Control (G-Con) vehicle body technology, which acts to absorb impact energy.

For passengers inside the car, the added safety feature active head restraints help to prevent whiplash and reduce the impact force in the case of a rear-end collision.
