This year's Honda Hybrid Women's Tour is well under way in the outer suburbs of Melbourne.

The relatively new event is a highlight of the Cycling Australia National Road Series and sees 62 women competing across five stages - two road races, a team time trial and two criterium races.

This year has also attracted some international attention, with a formidable Russian national team added to the list of competitors for the event.

The tour finished on Carlton's Lygon Street on October 16.

Mr Lindsay Smalley, Honda Australia spokesperson, was pleased to announce Honda's  association with the race.

"Cycling is a green, environmentally-friendly sport and mode of transport and complements Honda's values. Our involvement with cycling also satisfies our thirst for competition at the highest level," he said.

Honda was named car sponsor for both the women's event and the accompanying men's event, the Jayco Herald Sun Tour.

Honda has various hybrid cars on offer, including the Honda Civic hybrid sedan and the Honda Insight hybrid hatchback, and looks to extend the range in the near future.
